Pickle is a gregarious, adventuresome, happy-go-lucky little creature (like his mom Terry South). He has an endearing sweet nature, he’s curious, innocent (if not a little naive), and a wee tad co-dependant. His generosity knows no limits, and he is honest and full of gratitude for each new day. Pickle can be cheeky, full of mischief, and ohhh he loves to laugh! A right Pickle full of beans.
Pickle South loves our beautiful planet, our home…and all the people on it with his whole heart. He sees all our samenesses, our hearts, our wants, our need to love, to be loved, and included and believes we are all UNIQUE, not different, irregardless or race, color, gender or creed. He is a world traveller, a little humanitarian, and a friend to all.
Pickle lives by the words to John Lennon’s infamous song Imagine, as he traverses the planet with Jill, promoting, cultivating and nurturing Peace on Earth, thru lighthearted love & laughter. Imagine if you will, no heaven or hell, no countries, no borders…nothing to kill or die for, and no religion to divide us. Imagine…no need for greed or hunger…a brotherhood of man, living life in peace. Some may say he’s a dreamer, but he’s not the only one. Come join him won’t you, and the world will live as one.
The birth of Pickle’s Epic Adventures was about laughter & friendship, & heart in the face of Cancer. It was about having the courage to choose life, and love and laughter every day, despite impending tragedy, for those who suffer from this disease, and for the people who love them.
My name is Jill, and my friend and long time travel mate Terry, had cancer. Her sense of adventure and love of life surpassed my own, and I could not even breathe when I thought of Terry, one of the finest human beings I know, struck down with cancer. So when I embarked on a solo walk of the Camino de Santiago, I asked Terry to give me something of herself to keep close to my heart, to remind me of her, to give me courage and comfort along the way. She gifted me with a little stuffed Pickle she’d had for 30 years. Mr Super Pickle as he is formally known.
I recall holding her gaze when I saw him, like 2 old poker players, not a word spoken, what is this I thought, but on sheer faith I took Mr Super Pickle into my care. Right off I decided to join forces with Pickle and in an effort to make Terry laugh once per day, to lift her spirits, I created stories and pictures of his antics along the Camino, and reported back to her as I went. As she began to laugh, her tiny talisman awakened in me my long buried love of laughter of the soul. I love the sound, feel, and the positive energy of laughter, and the power it holds to lift us from our despair, to a place of hope, faith, and love energy if even for a few moments each day. It’s like spices in a fine meal, or the taste of salt air on our lips, it’s the sparkle in our eye at the sight or sound of beauty. Yes, our troubles remain, but made lighter for just a brief time thru the magic of laughter. Terry’s true gift to me.
She began to share his adventures with others as did I, and his followers grew. Some of you have now had the pleasure of travelling with Pickle as he accompanies me on all my travels. and we continue to honour our beautiful Terry, who left us 07/02/2018.
